Chimney and Fireplace · Wrightsville, PA
About 120 nights a year drop below freezing, but only about 13 days stay frozen all day. Water that soaks into a chimney crown freezes overnight and thaws by afternoon, again and again, and that is how crowns crack and mortar loosens. Ask whether the sweep inspects the flue liner too, since some old chimneys now vent a gas furnace or water heater they were never built for.
