Radon Mitigation · York County
Radon is a statewide issue in Pennsylvania. DEP reports that about 40% of homes tested have levels above EPA's action level of 4 pCi/L, and a USGS study found the highest medians mostly in the south-central part of the state. In 2018 DEP and the American Lung Association mailed free test offers to homeowners in Peach Bottom Township. Levels vary house to house, so the only way to know is to test.
Pennsylvania requires radon testers and mitigators to be certified by DEP, and the DEP Radon Services Directory lists them by name and county. Ask for the certification number, a follow-up test after the system goes in, and where the fan and vent pipe will run on the house.
Pennsylvania doesn't require a radon test, so nobody will remind you. Test anyway, and test again after the fan goes in.
