Contractors in Manchester

120 contractors serve Manchester. 111 are based in town.

Manchester began in 1814 as a village called Liverpool and became a borough in 1869, formed from the eastern section of Manchester Township. The township and East Manchester Township are separate municipalities with their own permit offices, so a Manchester mailing address doesn't settle which rules apply to a job.

The borough's housing comes in layers. About a quarter of its homes went up before 1940, the median house dates to the mid-1970s, and about a fifth were built since 2000, including a larger share from the last few years than any other town on this site. About two thirds are detached houses, and about six in ten households own their homes. Gas heats nearly four in five of them. A contractor here can go from a prewar house to one finished last year in the same week.

For permits, start at the borough office. Manchester uses CCIS, a third-party inspection agency, for plan review and inspections, and the borough takes payment and issues the permits CCIS approves.
