Contractors in Spring Grove
95 contractors serve Spring Grove. 82 are based in town.
Spring Grove was laid out in 1747 on the banks of Codorus Creek. An iron forge from the 1770s had turned to paper making by 1851, and since 1865 the town has grown with the Glatfelter paper mill, now Pixelle Specialty Solutions. The Spring Grove Borough Historic District is on the National Register.
The housing comes in two groups. About a third of the homes were built before 1940, and nearly a fifth went up after 2000, most of them in that first decade. About half are detached houses, about a fifth are attached, and there are no mobile homes. A job here can mean an older house near the core or a newer one on its first round of replacements.
Most households own, though about four in ten rent. Gas heats most homes, electricity about three in ten, and about one in ten still runs on oil. The borough employs its own building code official, so permit questions start at the borough office, including whether any review applies to exterior work in the historic district.
