Garage Doors · York County
Cold is harder on a garage door than heat. With about 120 nights a year below freezing, bottom seals stiffen and stick to the slab, springs lose tension, and openers strain against a door frozen to the floor. A quarter of the county's homes went up between 1980 and 1999, so plenty of doors and openers are original or on their second round, and some older detached garages still have wood doors.
Springs are the part worth getting right: ask what cycle rating the installer uses and whether both springs get replaced together. For a new door, get a written price with the Attorney General registration number on it.
Be wary of the cheap tune-up that ends with a whole new door sitting in the driveway by lunch.
