Masonry and Stone · Dillsburg, PA
Mortar in prewar brick and stone is often softer than modern mix, and patching it with hard cement mortar can crack the masonry around it. About a quarter of Dillsburg's homes date from before 1940. Ask whether the mason matches mortar to the original, and how they handle chimneys that take a winter of freezing nights and daytime thaws.
