Delta was built on slate. Welsh quarrymen arrived in the 1840s, rail shipping from the quarries ran until Funkhouser Quarry closed in 1971, and most of the houses in town still have slate roofs. The Delta Historic District has been on the National Register since 1983.

It's a small borough of a few hundred homes, and most were built before 1940. Census figures show no homes heating with utility gas. Oil heats the largest share of homes, followed by electric and propane, so oil delivery and heating service are everyday calls.
